Ubuntu disk usage analyzer

I like this one a lot, and it comes default with Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop Edition; for other Ubuntu versions, you can install it through Synaptic, if I remember well. It’s a program called Baobab – it allows you to view a graphical map of your hard disk usage, locally and on remote file systems.  The icon in the right left corner allows you to scan your personal folder (/home/username) directly. After the analysis is done, the panes on the right show all your folders in a hierarchical map. Be careful: the folders starting with a . (dot) are hidden folders that may contain valuable data: some of these hidden folders contain configuration data, some contain “real” data as well. For Ubuntu with the Evolution mail client for instance, the .evolution folder contains all your e-mail, so do not delete it 😉
