Until recently, a Microsoft Active Directory Domain and Windows networks were the domain of Windows workstations. With the rising popularity of alternatives like Ubuntu, RedHat, Novell Suse Linux and OpenSuse as Desktop Operating Systems, the possibilities become numerous. I am just getting to expore, this one, but I already want to share the link: adding a Linux computer to a Windows network. Check it out! As a matter of fact, the installation procedure for Ubuntu (version 9.04 at least)  is extremely simple, since the program is included in the available software list. You can just add the software by clicking on Applications, Add/ Remove software, and search for likewise. Have fun!
